Chicagoland Man Accused In Indiana I-80 Carjacking, Crash



(Hammond, IN) -- A Chicago area man is facing a laundry list of charges following an early Wednesday morning alleged DUI accident and attempted carjacking near Hammond. Douglas Schroeder is accused of allegedly cutting across westbound Interstate 80 at Cline Avenue and causing a tractor-trailer to jackknife. Indiana State police spokesperson Sergeant Ann Wojas says Schroeder then allegedly ran across the highway and into a business parking lot.

Schroeder is also facing drug possession charges after cocaine apparently fell out of his pocket while he was taken into custody. No injuries were reported but a woman was hospitalized because of her high rate of intoxication.

Wojas says Schroeder pulled a woman out of the accident and ran off.

Wojas says Douglas Schroeder is facing drug charges after a Griffith police officer arrested him.
